Electric Produce?
[News to Me]

While there's nothing funny about the details behind the story itself, I did a double take when reading the headline:

Georgia's Lemon charged with felony battery.

I thought this was a scientific breakthrough in 'green technology.' It wasn't though.

79/365 Cliff
[40x365]

Kelli's paternal grandfather is the only person on this list who I personally never met. However, his influence on so many people in my life is so important that he absolutely deserves inclusion. I am thankful for this godly man!

A Fishing Parable
[Marginal Theology]

The following came into my inbox this morning...it was delivered as humor, but I see it instead as a great parable for the challenge facing Christians in a post-Christian age:

This old fisherman would go out in his boat every morning and come back about an hour later with a cooler filled with fish. The game warden got suspicious as to how the old guy always caught so many fish in such a short time. So he invited himself fishing with the old guy.

They went to the middle of the lake, the old guy pulls out a stick of dynamite and throws it overboard. Boom! Fish start floating to the surface and the old guy starts scooping them up in his net.

The game warden says, "You can't do that. It's illegal."

The old guy quietly lights another stick of dynamite, hands it to the game warden and says, "You gonna talk or are you gonna fish?"

Don't believe me, that we're entering an age where we're being told that "fishing for men" is illegal?

Item #1: Evangelist has to sue for the right to share the gospel at University of Miami (Ohio)

Item #2: California Clerk will not accommodate the conscientious objection to licensing same-sex marriages.

Item #3: New Colorado legislation limits free speech and restrict the right to evangelize.

This is merely the beginning.

Here's the deal...The word of God is more dynamic than TNT. Its message is explosive.

It has been placed in your hands to be used to cast a wide net.

The question is simple..."You gonna talk, or are you gonna fish?"

Have you ever in the fog of the pre-caffienated morning mistakenly dispensed and applied Cinnamon Rush Toothpaste instead of your regular hair gel?

Yeah, me neither this morning.

On an unrelated note, do you know what really wakes you up in the morning if your coffee isn't ready?

A second shower, just a few minutes after your first shower.

78/365 James
[40x365]

Kelli's maternal grandfather was a sweet-spirited man who was instrumental to the development of Weatherford, Texas. My time with him was brief, but I remember lots of cheering for the Longhorns and Cowboys, and regular card games whenever we visited.

77/365 George
[40x365]

Mom's dad died in 1977 when I was five. He was a pleasant man who always brought laughter with every visit. He made this cool "Twisto-flex" sound from a Timex commercial that made it sound like he was under water.

76/365 Roy
[40x365]

My dad's dad was my first hero. He was a master storyteller and always made time to play with "his boys." I remember being impressed when he was willing to ride the roller coaster at Elitch Gardens with my brother.

Thirteen
[Family & Friends]

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then here is a short essay of the love I have for my bride.

Every experience between the moments captured here has been a blessing. I thank God for being able to share my joys with you, and also for being able to walk with you through life's pains. Growing with you and serving with you has made me a better man. You are my constant companion, my most faithful supporter, my consistent encourager, my lovely bride, my most enjoyable friend, my most stimulating conversationalist, my most understanding partner, and my life's one true love. I thank God for you daily, and I look forward to a future filled with love, laughter, promise, and opportunity with you.

Stacey was one of the brightest and most talented Bulldogs' 1991 class. This speech team member and I worked together in Trapper Mine's summer student program in college. Today she is a communications professor at UTEP and travels the world.

74/365 Corey
[40x365]

Corey was Dalian's best friend. He was the quarterback, wrestler, and pitcher of Kelli's class. He looked like the Grim Reaper during wrestling season when he was trying to "make weight." Today, he's a school administrator and a committed Christian.

73/365 Dalian
[40x365]

Dalian was Kelli's best guy friend. He was a great, gentle giant. He encouraged underclassmen on the football field and was an overachieving wrestler. Dalian died his senior year in an alcohol-related car accident. Kelli carried his flower at graduation.

With Francine, I felt cool that as I sophomore I was dating a senior. Things all fell apart when she asked me to ditch class to go hang out at the lake. I wasn't ready for that level of commitment.

71/365 Bret
[40x365]

Bret was our school's first great, record-setting long-distance runner. I thought he took steroids, but it turns out he was just fit. I always imagined he gave autographed pictures of himself as a gift to others. Also, he dated Paula.

Overcoming Itsy Bitsy
[Life of Bryan]

My front door is garrisoned by twin bushy trees. I'm no botanist, so I can't tell you the specific sort of tree that they are. I can tell you that the trees produce pretty red, assumed to be inedible berries that make for wonderful Christmas photographs and also serve as excellent pelting weapons with which to attack Cotter as we all go to load into a family vehicle.

These sentry trees bookend the covered front entryway. They periodically need to be cut back because like a teenager's bangs, they grow too bushy and obstruct the view to the world on the other side.

A small spider has taken up residence, daily spinning a web transversing the expanse between these two trees. Here's the thing...I've never seen an insect in the vacinity, nor have I seen a victim caught in its web.

I know this because every morning, I walk face-first into the web. I always forget about it until the next morning when I do it all over again. Every night, that industrious arachnid rebuilds.

But here's my thinking...I've seen first hand that there's no insects for it to catch. Yet I'm eating cobweb every morning. So I'm pretty sure that what we've got is a spider who is pretty confident of its own abilities and is figuring that if he can get me bound up and twisted...he will never have to hunt again.

I'm wise to your ways little over-achieving spider. And even though you'll probably greet me with yet another mass of webbery covering my spectacles and teeth....and I may just yell out like a teenage girl in a horror movie...don't confuse that for evidence of your impending victory. Your future lies in relocation and investing in more miniscule quarry.

70/365 Audrey
[Family & Friends]

Audrey, a junior, asked me, a freshman, to Prom. The prospect of going to Prom frightened me, perhaps because my brother (a senior) threatened me with, "Don't ruin my Senior Prom." So I declined. She went with Donnie Jones instead.
